Sharjah City Travel, UAE

Sharjah is the third largest of the seven states which form the United Arab Emirates.

The settlement of Sharjah dates back some 6,000 years when it is believed to have been called Sarcoa. The population was small and people relied on trade and sea faring in addition to, farming, hunting, fishing and pearling. Many of the early settlements were based around the 'falaj', a man made underground water course.

In the following pages, you will find information about the history, culture, heritage and the language of Sharjah and the Arab world in general.

The variety of scenery in Sharjah is a major attraction for tourist groups from all over the world.

The beautiful desert and beaches of Sharjah attract visitors.

Popular diving sites can be found on both coasts with mainly wreck diving in the Arabian Gulf and natural sites on the East Coast.

Scenically, the East Coast is the most beautiful area of the whole country. Golden sand beaches line the bays, which break the steep rocky folds dipping into the clear.

blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Renowned for its water sports, snorkeling, diving and relaxing, this coast creates the ideal break for a weekend, either camping or residing in the motels and hotels which line the coast.

From Masafi the left turn at the roundabout brings you past the Masafi falls and water bottling factory, over a spectacular pass and down onto the gravel plain of Dibba, where the Indian Ocean stretches out before you. A 4 WD trip through Wadi Tayyebah (turn left 10 kms after Masafi, just before the start of the pass) on some tarmac, mainly track is an interesting diversion. Also good for mountain biking.

Eco Tourism – making a positive difference to the environment is taken very seriously in the Emirate . Sharjah takes all precaution to protect its Beaches, Deserts, Flora, land animals and marine life.

The Municipality maintains Sharjah’s landscaped parks. Winter weekends are the busiest and all the parks crowded with families who bring their children for fresh air and to play.

Anyone, who plans to stay in the UAE for a while, should definitely embark on several adventure shopping trips to the Emirate's souks and shopping malls.

A vehicle is a necessity as cities tend to be spread out with residential areas set away from schools and shops. Apart from taxis there is no public transport system. Driving is on the right hand side of the road.
