Malta-based Corinthia Hotels International has signed a long-term management agreement with Golden Sands Hotel of Dubai for the operation of the 371 all-suite ‘Ramada Hotel & Suites Jumeirah Beach’. The property is set to open in January of 2008 and forms part of the larger Jumeirah Beach Residence master complex, a unique high-rise development located minutes away from Dubai’s golden sandy beaches.

The management agreement is a first for Corinthia Hotels International in this thriving destination since signing a joint venture agreement with Wyndham Worldwide, last year, for the exclusive operation of Corinthia, Wyndham and Ramada Plaza branded hotels in the EMEA region. (more…)

The Landmark Group of Hotels recently opened the ‘Landmark Suites’, a 4-star deluxe hotel located on the Corniche Road in Ajman.

With 107 suites featuring first-class amenities and private balconies with stunning views of the ocean, the Landmark Suites also offers a health club equipped with a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, Jacuzzi and Ayurvedic massage center. Emirates’ onboard meals from Dubai are now supplied from a new, purpose-built flight catering facility that is one of the most modern and the largest of its kind in the world. The US$120 million unit, with a design capacity to produce 115,000 meals per day, became fully operational at the start of this month.

The new flight kitchen is exclusive to Emirates while the existing one, adjacent to it, continues to serve all other airlines. Both are operated by Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC), which is 90% owned by Emirates and 10% by Dubai’s Department of Civil Aviation.

The new unit covers a total area of nearly 50,000 square metres, spread over four floors, and services around 95 departures and 90 arrivals per day.

It has been designed by the EKFC management team in consultation with i+O, the German industrial design company specialising in inflight catering facilities, and incorporates the latest systems in hygiene, energy saving, food production and automated equipment handling to ensure that Emirates passengers enjoy onboard food that is totally fresh, perfectly cooked and absolutely hygienic. Dubai Investments Park (DIP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Dubai Investments, has announced that it has recently signed an agreement with Kleindienst & Partner, a Dubai-based German real estate broker, to open the ‘European Business Centre’ (EBC) in DIP, in a move predicted to foster a greater European corporate presence in Dubai.

The AED 150 million project will incorporate up to 150 new companies and create more than 1,500 new jobs at DIP by assisting European and Middle Eastern companies establish operations through providing local sponsorship and business-setup support. When EBC opens in November 2007, the company’s commercial premises will accommodate turn-key offices in flexible sizes, as well as in-house retail facilities, meeting and conference rooms, logistical facilities, basement parking, and ‘green building’ amenities. Eight Dubai-based certified hospitality trainers (CHT) recently underwent a rigorous review process under the leadership of Mr. David Lechter, Vice President International, the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) invited Mr. Lechter to review the quality standard for hospitality training with eight training professionals, all of whom have been training from three to thirty years. (more…)

Employees at the Mövenpick Hotel Bur Dubai are brushing up their skills in preparation for the third annul Junior Hotel Academy. On July 15th and August 5th the hotel will open its doors and become a hands on workshop for boys and girls from across Dubai eager to learn more about hospitality.

The initiative, which encourages active learning, has proved popular in the past with children and parents alike finding the experience both enjoyable and beneficial. The academy is a one day programme starting at 9 in the morning when the children are dropped off and finishing in the evening with a presentation and snacks for the parents.

Throughout the day the young hoteliers fluff pillows, prepare mocktails, don a chef’s jacket and learn about security as they work their way through every department. A competition is weaved into the proceedings which culminates in a quiz ensuring all academy goers remain engaged and are rewarded for their efforts.

The academy is open for children aged 6-12 years old and costs AED 150 per child including refreshments throughout the day and lunch.
