A unique exhibition devoted to the Desert Islands – the multi-experience tourism destination taking shape off Abu Dhabi’s western coastline – has opened at the Emirates Palace Hotel in the UAE capital city.

The Desert Islands will comprise eight islands, including the Sir Bani Yas eco-resort – the former environmental showcase of the late UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and an on-shore gate.

The exhibition focuses on the significant career opportunities the destination is expected to hold out to Emiratis. It features the destination’s master plan, inspirational images and project models. (more…)

The Express by Holiday Inn Dubai Internet City has become InterContinental Hotel Group’s first limited service hotel in the Middle East.

Michel Augier, Acting Chief Operating Officer, InterContinental Hotels Group, Middle East & Africa, said, “Currently, hotel options in the Middle East for travellers on a budget are quite limited, with many people having to select more expensive accommodation in order to guarantee themselves satisfactory levels of amenities and service. This will now change with the opening of Express by Holiday Inn Dubai Internet City.”

Express by Holiday Inn Dubai Internet City, one of four planned four Dubai, is the first of 22 hotels planned across the GCC countries and Jordan by the end of 2010. The properties will be operated by Ishraq Gulf Real Estate Holding Co. BSC, which is the exclusive developer of the Express by Holiday Inn hotels in all GCC countries, except Saudi Arabia.

There are a number of further properties in the pipeline across the UAE set to open in the next five years with contracts and locations to be announced in the near future. Hotels will be developed by Ishraq in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and also Jordan over the same timeframe.T

The Express by Holiday Inn Dubai Internet City comprises 244 rooms over four floors and is completely integrated into the strategically located Dubai Knowledge Village complex.

Etihad Airways has increased its Abu Dhabi to Sydney services from three flights-a-week to a daily service.

The flights to Australia were launched on 26 March and since then the Sydney route has established itself quickly as one of Etihad’s most popular destinations. Following the success of the Sydney service the airline is examining several potential new destinations in Australia.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ chief executive, said, “Prior to the launch of the Abu Dhabi to Sydney service we knew it would be popular with business and leisure customers, but the demand we have received has outstripped all expectations.”

The Etihad flight EY450 departs daily from Abu Dhabi at 10.10am, arriving in Sydney at 6.15am the following day.

The return service EY451 departs from Sydney at 2.35pm, arriving Abu Dhabi 11:25pm. All times are local.
