Movenpick Hotel Bur Dubai to Fill Christmas Stocking for Charity

The Atrium Style lobby of the Movenpick Hotel Bur Dubai is to become home to a larger than life Christmas stocking this December. The stocking, which will stand at 4.5 metres tall with a diameter of 1.5 metres, is part of an initiative to collect toys and hampers for the children’s wards of various hospitals in the UAE and for those less fortunate.

The stocking is aiming to bring the community together throughout the festive month, with everyone invited to make their donations which will be dropped into the gigantic stocking every Friday at the advent brunch by one of Santa’s little helpers. It will be launched on the 3rd December at the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony with the donations being distributed throughout the UAE on the 24th December.

DTCM Bags Two Awards At WTM-2007

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has bagged two awards at the World Travel Market (WTM-2007) in London, where it is having a big presence for the 18th successive year.

Selling Long Haul magazine awards have been given after the travel agents voted the DTCM UK and Ireland representation office for offering the best overall service to the trade and also for providing the best all-round range of training initiatives to the travel agents.

Ian Scott, new director of the DTCM’s UK and Ireland Representation Office, was presented with a brace of Selling Long Haul awards by Martin Steady, managing director of BMI Publications which produces Selling Long Haul Magazine.

The awards are tribute to the effort that the DTCM puts into ensuring that tour operators are properly educated about the emirate, using such tools as the Dubai Expert online training programme, familiarization trips and the Destination Dubai Tourism Manual, the 2008 edition of which was unveiled at the world’s biggest tourism trade show. Dubai Hotel Revenues reach AED8.7 Billion between Jan-Sept 2007

The total revenues of Dubai hotels and hotel apartments during the first nine months of 2007 touched AED8.7 billion on the back of a 7% increase in guests and 17.6% rise in guest nights compared with the corresponding period last year, the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) reported on the concluding day of the World Travel Market in London. Spatial Aviation Safety Training Academy to open at Dubai World Central

Dubai World Central Aviation City, which will be home to one of the world’s largest maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) centres in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, has signed a land lease agreement with a Dubai company to set up the Middle East’s first independent aviation safety training academy.

Spatial Aviation Safety Training Academy (SASTA), a specialist provider of aircrew training solutions, will build the US$ 37 million (AED 136 million), 14,000 square metre facility to cater to commercial airlines, private and corporate jet operators, helicopter and light fixed wing crew.

The academy will also provide customised training for airport ground staff and management. (more…)

Dubai to host Global Travel & Tourism Summit in April 2008

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has confirmed that Dubai will be the host state of the Global Travel & Tourism Summit taking place on April 20-22, 2008.

At the official launch last week, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group and Geoffrey Kent, Chairman of WTTC and Chairman & CEO of Abercrombie & Kent signed an accord establishing a public-private partnership.

This partnership, comprising the Government of Dubai, Emirates, Jumeirah, Nakheel and WTTC, will guide the development of the Summit; an event which will bring industry and government leaders together in Dubai to discuss the priorities for the world’s largest generator of jobs and prosperity - Travel & Tourism.
