Emaar opens Dubai Marina Yacht Club

Emaar Hospitality has opened a new marina-based leisure experience in the UAE. The Dubai Marina Yacht Club, a premier destination for marine enthusiasts, is located along Dubai Marina canal, and offers memberships to boat-owners while the public can enjoy an array of amenities including marine-themed restaurants and retail outlets.

The Dubai Marina Yacht Club will eventually cater to over 500 yachts from 10 to 35 metres in length. The Marina will have four berthing areas in all, with the East Marina already open. Dubai Tops Global Average Room Rate and Ranks Second in Occupancy Rate

Dubai achieved new tourism highs in the last few months according to STR Global, a market leader in monitoring hotel performance trends worldwide.

Dubai was placed first globally in terms of average room rate, which hit US$ 290 last August. Paris came in second (US$ 280), New York in third (US$ 261), Rome in fourth (US$ 237) and London in fifth place with its average room rate being US$ 230.

According to STR Global, Dubai also ranked first in terms of average revenues per room, which was US$ 237 with Paris coming in second (US$ 217), New York third (US$ 216), London fourth (US$ 185) and Rome in fifth (US$ 154 ).

Dubai’s leading position of having the highest hotel occupancy rate was edged by New York which was first in this category with 83% in the same period. Dubai stands in second position at 81.6%.T

The last few weeks have seen the opening of many hotel and tourism projects in Dubai which together have and will hugely contribute to the tourism product of the emirate, such as the opening of Atlantis Hotel and The Dubai Mall. Many more projects are already in the pipeline.

The five international markets which have showed tremendous increase in tourist numbers in Dubai from 2003 to 2007 were Japan which had 68,235 visitors in 2003 rising to 74,093 in 2007, an increase of 174%; the number of tourists from Italy were 82,337 in 2003 which increased to 93,258 in 2007, a 147% increase; from Australia and New Zealand from 95,476 in 2003 to 119,202 in 2007, an increase of 163%; and from Germany tourist numbers grew from 682,156 in 2003 to 657,235 in 2007. The number of UK tourists in 2007 to Dubai amounted to 752,381.

There are currently 343 hotels operating in Dubai with the total number of rooms being 38,748; which includes 50 five-star hotels with a total of 16,174 rooms; 53 four-star hotels with a total of 8,964 rooms; 47 three-stars hotel with 5,096 rooms; 42 celebrity hotels with a total of 3,412 rooms; 132 one-star category hotels with a total of 4,618 rooms and 19 hotels in the Guest House category with 484 rooms. Hotel apartments in Dubai currently amount to 150 including 39 Deluxe and 111 Standard.

Emirates to launch Final Phase of Terminal 3 in Dubai on 11 November 2008

It’s full steam ahead for Emirates with the much-anticipated final phase of operations from Emirates Terminal 3 at Dubai International set for launch on Tuesday, 11th November at 13:15hrs.

This fourth and final phase will launch flights to Emirates’ route network in the Indian subcontinent, East Asia and Australasia, constituting 40% of its total operations. From 12th November, all Emirates flights will criss-cross its network, spanning 91 destinations on six continents, from Emirates Terminal 3.

The first flights to depart from the terminal in this phase will be EK584 to Dhaka at 13:15hrs and EK502 to Mumbai at 13:20hrs; the first flight to arrive will be EK658 from Male/Colombo at 15:00hrs. (more…)
