Dubai unveiled new cruise terminal at Seatrade Europe 2009

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) participated in the 2009 edition of Seatrade Europe held at Hamburg Messe Fairground in Germany from September 15 to 17.

Dubai Stand had seven co-participants – Rais Hassan Saadi Group, Gulf Agency Co. (Dubai), Alpha Tours, Centre of the World Tours, SNTTA Emir Cruises, Travco and Emirates Airline.

Mr. Hamad bin Mejren, DTCM Executive Director Business Tourism, who led the Dubai delegation, said the mood of the cruise tourism industry was upbeat at the Seatrade Europe, the meeting place for high-level figures involved in the North European cruise, ferry and river cruise industries.

More than 3000 participants took part in the conference, exhibition and social programme while over 60 speakers discussed a broad range of topics, including pricing strategies and itineraries. Nearly 250 suppliers from 50 countries showcased their products and services at the show.

DTCM, which is upbeat about cruise tourism gaining further ground in the emirate in the coming season, utilized the exhibition to unveil details about the new cruise terminal scheduled to open in January 2010. (more…)

DTCM and Dubai Civil Defence sign MoU to improve safety facilities at hotel establishments

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Directorate General of Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at improving the safety facilities of hotel establishments in the emirate.

The agreement was signed by DTCM Director General, Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, and DCD Director General, Major General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, at the DCD Headquarters in Dubai on Monday, September 28, in the presence of senior officials from both the organizations.

The MoU comes in the framework of the cooperation between various government organizations.

The agreement aims at cooperation and coordination between both the organisations in order to assist DCD in the performance of the duties of its staff at all times, especially in emergency situations and promoting joint action, including providing added value to improve performance and simplify the procedures and customer satisfaction.

The agreement provides for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, information and studies related to the field work of both parties as well as the development of contingency plans in coordination between the parties to achieve safety. (more…)

Dubai participate in Leisure-2009 exhibition in Moscow

Dubai had a strong presence at the 13th edition of the Russian Travel and Tourism Exhibition (Leisure-2009) held in Moscow from September 22 to 25 as part of the efforts of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to consolidate Dubai’s position in the Russian and CIS markets.

DTCM had 39 co-participants drawn from various segment of the emirate’s vibrant tourism industry, including hotels, tour operators and destination management companies (DMCs).

Dubai Stand at the 15th edition of the annual tourism and travel trade show measured over 350 square metres.

Dubai delegation was headed by the DTCM Deputy Director of Overseas Promotions and Inward Mission, Mr. Abdullah Bin Suwaidan. DTCM has been awarded with the Prize and Diploma for the active support to the Leisure 2009.

On the opening day, Dubai stand was visited by a VIP Russian delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth policy, Mr.Oleg Rozhkov, and Director of Department of Tourism of Russia, Mr. Anatoly Yarochkin. Mr.Rozhkov highly appreciated the exclusive position of Dubai brand in the Russian tourist market. (more…)

Free Wi-Fi and Internet Access at Abu Dhabi International Airport

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) today announced the complete roll out of free Wi-Fi and internet access throughout Abu Dhabi International Airport. Fifty new walk-up kiosks are now fully operational in the newly opened Terminal 3, following the success of 15 walk-up kiosks which were launched in Terminal 1 last year.

The expansion of free internet access across the entire airport is part of ADAC’s policy to create and technologically-advanced gateway to the world, and give rise to a leading airport with world-class facilities for all passengers.

The 65 touch screen walk-up kiosks offer 20 minutes of free internet access per session. The Wi-Fi provides 1 hour of access per session, with users able to reconnect for subsequent sessions. The service has already received a positive response from passengers, with 250,000 sessions registered in a recent twenty day period. Approximately 25% of visitors to the airport are logging onto the service, either through laptops, phones or the kiosks. (more…)

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority Scoops Travel Weekly’s ‘Best Destination Marketing Award’

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which manages Abu Dhabi emirate’s tourism industry, has won the ‘Best Destination Marketing Award’ in the 2009 edition of an industry awards programme operated by Travel Weekly China, one of the world’s leading sector magazines.

The awards, which result from a readers’ poll followed by judging by an appointed panel of experts, recognise the ‘best-of-the-best’ enterprises in China’s travel, meetings and incentive industry both inbound and outbound. ADTA was also short listed among the top three nominees for the ‘Best Meetings & Incentive Destination Marketing.’ (more…)

The Harbour Hotel & Residence Joins Marriott International Portfolio

The 261-unit, 52-story Harbour Hotel & Residence at the entrance of Dubai Marina will join the Marriott International lodging portfolio on September 15, 2009 under a recently concluded agreement with Emirates airline and Group, which retains ownership of the property. Following some modifications primarily to its public space and reconfiguration of some rooms bringing the new room count to 232 rooms, the property will be rebranded the Dubai Marriott Harbour Hotel & Suites later this year and will be the first upscale Marriott-branded hotel in the city.

The agreement represents the second contract Marriott has reached with Emirates this year. Earlier, the company signed an agreement with Emirates to operate the under-construction 1,614-room JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai. (more…)

Flydubai Strengthens Presence In Africa

flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, is set to expand its network in Africa with the announcement of flights to Djibouti from 01 September 2009.

The new service, FZ601, will operate three times per week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, departing Dubai at 08:00 and arriving in Djibouti at 10:15 local time. The return flight, FZ602, will leave 45 minutes later at 11:00 and arrive back in Dubai at 15:15 local time.

One way fares to Djibouti from Dubai will cost from AED 650, including all taxes and one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 10 kg, and will be available for purchase from the website (flydubai.com), call centre (04 301 0800) and travel agents from today. (more…)
