Dubai Green Tourism Award programme making headway

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) had launched the first-ever Dubai Green Tourism Award in June this year as part its commitment towards sustainable tourism and incorporate best environmental practices within the booming tourism sector.

Through the pioneering award programme, it wants the tourism industry stakeholders to demonstrate a firm commitment towards reducing the impact of their business on the environment.

Hotels and hotel apartments were invited to participate in the award programme and their business practices were assessed for a wide range of environmental, economic and social issues, including energy saving, nature conservation and community involvement. More Details »

Emirates Takes Delivery of Sixth A380

Forging ahead with the airline’s immense fleet expansion Emirates has taken delivery of its sixth Airbus A380 aircraft.

The colossal aircraft landed in Dubai late last night after travelling from the Jurgen Thomas Delivery Centre in Hamburg, Germany. The aircraft is currently being fitted with the airline’s service hallmarks at Emirates’ world class engineering facility, in preparation for entry into service.

Taking delivery of this mammoth plane Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Executive Vice President Engineering and Operations said: “The delivery of our sixth A380 aircraft is testament to Emirates’ steadfast resilience amidst the global economic crisis. Emirates is to launch flights From Dubai to Amsterdam

The blossoming of the airline’s 23rd route into Europe will bring much awaited news in The Netherlands. The daily, non-stop service from Dubai will be operated with a combination of 777-200LR and 777-300ER aircraft, boasting a three-class configuration and the newest version of ice, the passenger revered in-flight entertainment system. Emirates, with its exquisite Private Suites, will be the only airline offering First Class accommodation on the route.

This is the fourth new destination to be announced this year by the Dubai-based carrier. Durban and Luanda were both launched in October and Tokyo was recently announced with a start date of 28th March 2010. More Details »

A new star joining the Millennium and Copthorne Group of hotels in the Middle East

new-star-joining-millennium-copthorne-groupMillennium and Copthorne Holdings Limited Middle East signed today a management contract with Al Attar Group, to manage the newest 5 stars hotel in Dubai, the Millennium Plaza Hotel Dubai, located on Sheikh Zayed road in a prime location opposite to the Dubai Exhibition center.

The signing ceremony took place today in Dubai between Mr. Ali Hamd Lakhraim, President and CEO of Millennium & Copthorne Holdings Limited Middle East, and Mr. Khalid Al Attar, Chairman of Khalid Al Attar Group in Dubai and the owner of the Hotel.

The Hotel will feature 204 spacious rooms and one presidential suite, a tea lounge and an all day dining restaurant. The 61 story building will also feature four meeting rooms that will fit all requirements for meeting organizers, along with a roof top, panoramic swimming pool and a gym.

“We are proud to enter into this agreement with Al Attar Group, which is one of the leading companies in Dubai and we are confident that this will be a beginning of many years of fruitful cooperation”, said Ali Hamd Lakhraim, President and CEO of Millennium.

The Address Hotels + Resorts Wins Two ‘Best Hotel Arabia’ Awards At Arabian Property Awards

Two properties of The Address Hotels + Resorts, the hotel brand of Emaar Hospitality Group, have won the ‘Best Hotel Arabia’ honours at the Arabian Property Awards.

  • The Palace – The Old Town is ‘Best Hotel Arabia’ in over 50 rooms category
  • The Address Montgomerie Dubai is ‘Best Small Hotel Arabia’ with under 50 rooms
  • In addition WA International won ‘The Interior Design Award for Arabia’ for their work on The Address Downtown Burj Dubai

The Palace – The Old Town, an elegant 5-star premium hotel destination in Dubai, and The Address Montgomerie Dubai won the awards in the over and under 50 rooms categories respectively. 5,076 Cruise Tourists Arrive in Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Three cruise ships with 5076 tourists docked in Dubai in the first week of November, giving a big boost to fast-growing cruise tourism at the start of the cruising winter season.

Tahitian Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, arrived with 1151 passengers and crew members from Muscat and left for the Indian port city of Mumbai after a day’s stay on November 3, 2009.

On the same day, Ocean Village Two docked at the cruise terminal with 2236 passengers and crew members for a two-day tour. Operated by P&O Cruises, the vessel had mainly British and Irish tourists when it arrived from Muscat and left for the south Indian city of Cochin.

Legend of the Seas, belonging to the Royal Caribbean International, arrived in Dubai on November 4 with 1689 passengers and crew members from Egypt’s Safaga port and left for Mumbai, India, after a day’s stay. The tourists were mostly American, British, German, Canadian and Australian nationals.

There was passengers exchange programme on all the three vessels.

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), which operate Dubai Cruise Terminal at the Port Rashid complex, organized grand welcome ceremonies for the three cruise ships with traditional local band in attendance.

It also organized a falcon show, while Big Bus and Seawings sold tours directly to the passengers.

DTCM put up information counters inside the terminal to assist the visitors about visiting Dubai landmarks and tourist attractions. Brochures and Dubai maps were made available to the visitors free of cost. More Details »

DTCM hosts Dubai Road Show in three Chinese cities

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) conducted Dubai Road Shows in three Chinese cities of Dubai as a Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou recently.

The Dubai delegation was led by two DTCM officials – Mr. Nayef Ibrahim, Head of Australia and Asia Region, and Mr. Talal al Suwaidi, Head of Region India, Middle East & Southern/Eastern Africa.

Representatives of three co-sponsors, Emirates Airline, Jumeirah and Arabian Explorers, and other 32 co-participants took part in the road shows.

Over 120 local travel agents in each city attended the event and co-participants took this opportunity to network with their counterparts and potential buyers in China.
The DTCM also arranged “China Outbound Clinic” before the table talk section in Beijing and Shanghai. Eight local outbound industry experts made speeches about China outbound industry, and co-participants discussed the market characteristics, tourist request, and product innovation with these experts. Rotana is set to open Rose Rayhaan by Rotana, the world’s tallest hotel in Dubai
